The Archdiocese began its precautions a fortnight ago, stepping them up gradually last week and is doing so again in a measured way as part of duty of care to parishioners.  Archbishop Cushley has asked clergy and the faithful of the Archdiocese to consider putting in place the following measures.
  • Holy Communion to be received in the hand, avoiding physical contact.
  • Holy Communion may be received on the tongue as long as the Communicant presents in such a way that the Sacred Host can be placed on the tongue without contact.
  • Reception of the Precious Blood from the Chalice to be suspended
  • Holy water stoups to be emptied
  • The Sign of Peace to be omitted or replaced with another gesture such as a slight bow of the head, avoiding physical contact
  • Clergy and Extraordinary Ministers to wash their hands or use sanitising gel before and after the distribution of Holy Communion
These measures are to be temporary and are offered in view of our responsibility for each other’s health. They will be reviewed again at Easter. We will implement all of these precautions from this weekend as advised.
GIFT AID ENVELOPES for 2020-2021
are now available in the annexe. Please advise Mike Kelly of any change of address, other details or relevant matters when collecting your box.  Non-Gift Aid envelopes will be set out in 2 weeks’ time.  Thank you.

St Bernadette’s Primary School
As in previous years our P4-7 children will be coming down to Church to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Walk the Stations of The Cross as part of their Lenten preparations at 10.30am over Wednesday 11th, Thursday 12th, Friday 13th , Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th March.
Saturday 14th Youth Leaders' Day:
If you’re a young person in youth ministry or interested in getting involved, this day is for you. It will feature presentations from Siobhan Fee of Alpha UK and Mairi-Claire McGeady of the LifeTeen programme. In the afternoon, there will be a forum for youth leaders to reflect together on highlights of this ministry, challenges they face, how they see the future and how the Archdiocese might support them.  11-3pm Gillis Centre, 100 Strathearn Road, Edinburgh.  Email to register.
Gender Recognition Bill consultation:
The Scottish Government is consulting now on proposed changes to gender recognition legislation. These include removal of the current medical requirements and reducing the age limit for legally changing gender from 18 to 16. The Catholic Church believes that sex or gender cannot be reduced to a mere construct of society that is fluid and changeable. Please make your voice heard in this consultation which can be completed at The deadline for responses is 17th March.
Friday 20th and Friday 27th
Archbishop Cushley has requested that clergy attend these important all-day meetings at Gillis Centre to discuss and plan for our future.  As they will begin early we are asked to reschedule our morning Masses to allow us to be there promptly.  Thus our morning Masses on these dates will be at 8.30am.
